And the answer is .... It all depends!
Most often this question does not include all of the details. Just the other day an architect asked me how much it would cost to add attic access to an area above some finished garage space.
Well ... it all depends. It's all in the details.
The last time I was asked to add a "simple access panel" to some attic space it turned out that the homeowner really wanted:
- A custom built teak "eggcrate" access hatch that was originally designed as a boat hatch.
- Custom solid brass hardware.
- A pulley system to open the access panel.
- A custom built African mahogany fold up stair that was modeled after the stern stairs typically used on the back of an old Chris Craft.
Of course it looked awesome when it was completed.
When all was said and done, this "simple access panel" had to cost in the area of $ 4,000.00!
